The podcast series "The Missing Cryptoqueen" - created by the BBC Crypto Queen, was created to investigate the disappearance of Dr. Ruja Ignatova - founder of the ponzi scam. the notorious OneCoin, will be adapted into a TV series published by entertainment agency Deadline.
New Regency Television International has won the rights to broadcast the adaptation version, competing directly with rivals from A24 and 20th Century TV. New Regency's Ed Rubin and Emma Broughton will produce the series with podcast co-authors Jamie Bartlett and Georgia Catt.

Who is Dr. Ruja Ignatova?
The Missing Cryptoqueen is the story of Bulgarian technology entrepreneur Ruja Ignatova who introduced the OneCoin cryptocurrency in 2014. Investors from 175 countries poured $ 5 billion into the cryptocurrency Ignatova advertised. was a "Bitcoin killer" but unfortunately, the boss disappeared in 2017 after OneCoin was accused of being a giant Ponzi scheme.
The leaked documents for the BBC revealed that in the first 6 months of 2016, the British spent nearly 30 million euros on OneCoin, with 2 million euros being invested in a week. Optimistic investors from countries like Germany, China, the United States and Brazil also invest in OneCoin. A BBC investigation found that OneCoin, despite being sold as a cryptocurrency, actually has no blockchain. As OneCoin investors became increasingly concerned, Ignatova boarded a Ryanair flight from Sofia, Bulgaria to Athens in October 2017 and disappeared since then.
Ignatova has been indicted in absentia for money laundering and fraud. In October 2019, her younger brother, Konstantin Ignatov, pleaded guilty to money laundering and fraud. He has not yet been sentenced but faces penalties of up to 90 years in prison. At the trial, Ignatov revealed his sister lived in Sofia, Bulgaria before she went missing and he hasn't contacted her since. He also confirmed that she was afraid someone close would point the FBI and she asked him to get a passport, flight tickets to Greece, to Austria.

OneCoin lawyer Mark Scott was found guilty of conspiracy to commit money laundering and bank fraud at the U.S. District Court in Manhattan after a three-week hearing. He will be sentenced later this month.

The BBC's The Missing Cryptoqueen podcast first aired on BBC Sounds in September 2019 and quickly earned 3.5 million downloads, reaching number one on the UK's iTunes charts.
