How to block some websites from Google search results

Although I use Google for all my online searches, it's still not perfect. They change their algorithms pretty much every day and every change is always better. Add to that all the specific personalized and geographic search results and you get a different set of results even if you search the same thing twice.

For someone like me, there are many times I just don't want to see a website in search results. For example, before I buy anything online, I always check it on Amazon Amazon because I'm a main member. That means when I do a search in Google, I'm not interested in the results Amazon shows up, which can sometimes take up a number of positions. I also do not want to manually remove the site every time I perform a search.

So is there a way to permanently block a site from Google search results? Thankfully yes, but it will require installing an extension. In this article, I will show you how to permanently block specific websites from your Google search results.

List of blocked websites

You can create personal blocking lists in Google Chrome by installing the extension below, used by Google.

Personal blocking list (Not by Google)

When you install it in Chrome and perform a search in Google, you will now see an option to block that site just below the title and URL for the search results.

When you click on block links, the results will disappear immediately from the search results. A useful feature of the extension is that it will let you know at the bottom of the page if any results are blocked. I find this helpful in some cases where I want to see which sites are blocked for that particular query. When you block a website, it will not only not appear in the results for that query, but will also not appear in the results for any query. So, be careful to block websites as they will never appear again.

If you click the Display button, the result will reappear at the original position where it was placed and it will be highlighted in light pink. If you want, you can unblock the site at this time.

If you want to see a list of all the sites you've blocked, simply click on the strange icon for the block list on your toolbar. I believe it has a strange orange color with the hand symbol. I don't know why they chose that, but ok.

Additionally, there is an option to block the server for the current tab. I am on Google.com above, so it shows upBlock current server: google.comHard. So if you have a tab open and want to block that site without having to find it in the search results, just click the button and block it.

In addition to this extension, Google has Report webspam The plugin will allow you to report sites as spam. I have also installed this because there are a few times I get spam results and it is better that both report the site as spam and block it instead of just blocking it. This way, if enough people report the site as spam, it will eventually be pushed very far down in the search results.

Using these two extensions in Chrome, you can really clean up the results even more to your liking. It will take a bit of time and patience, but it's worth it if you do hundreds of searches every day like me.

If you are a Firefox user, you can install it same utility That will block unwanted results from Google. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a good solution for IE and Safari, so if you use those browsers, you're out of luck. If you happen to know a way to do this in those browsers, please let us know in the comments. Enjoy!
