How to create free online surveys with Google Docs

Today, you can run a survey several times a week via Buzzfeed or Facebook or news sites, etc. Although we have a lot of surveys, not many of us make our own surveys. The main reason is because there is no super easy and fast way to create a survey, send it out, track feedback and show results to people.

After using some online tools, one method I like to create simple surveys to send to friends or family is to use Google Forms. It allows you to create completely customized surveys or forms, send them to anyone, and keep track of all their responses in one place. In this article, I will show you how you can use Google Docs to create your own surveys easily.

Before we begin, it's worth noting that there are two ways to create forms in Google Docs. The first way is to create a new form from Google Drive and the second way, in my opinion, it is better to create a form from Google Sheets, which will link the spreadsheet to the form and upload all data to the worksheet for analysis. after.

Start a form

To create a form from Google Sheets, go ahead and click the Insert tab and then click Form.

New form sheet

A new tab will open with the form panel. Here you can start adding questions, etc., which I will explain further. You will notice that when you return to your spreadsheet, you will see a message that a new form has been created. Additionally, if you click on the Form tab, you will be able to edit the form, submit it, view the live form, and so on.

You will also see a new sheet in the called worksheet Feedback form, that's where all the answers to each question will be saved.

To create a form from Google Drive, click the large form New Left button or click My drive, later New file and then click on Google Forms.

Create a survey form

Now for the fun part: create our form! Below, what the new form screen looks like below. What I like about it is that it is very intuitive to use and find out.

Template sheets with no title

By default, you are in Edit the question mode, but you can also switch Change theme, See feedback or View live form Use the buttons on top. There are lots of topics to choose from, so you can make your survey look professional, silly, or whatever you like.

The next part is Install the form where a progress bar appears so users can see how many surveys they've completed. You can also force it to have only one answer per user and you can shuffle the questions if desired. The first option is useful if you are giving a survey to your staff or your students and you need to ensure that the answers are correct and can be linked to a specific person. .

Before we get to the middle, let it skim down to where we say it Confirmation page. These are the options for the last page users will see after they complete the survey. You can give them a link to submit another response, publish a link to the results of the form for everyone to see and allow respondents to edit their feedback after they've submitted the form. .

The middle section is actually where you create the form. By default, you have created a form from a spreadsheet, which will be named with the same name, but you can change it. Below you can give it a description and below are the actual questions. By default, the first question is a multiple choice option. Go ahead and click on the question and it will expand so you can customize the question.

Add question template

Ask your question a title and then add some help text if you want to clarify something or add some information to the question. The kind of question is the cool part! You can choose from a range of different options like Text, Paragraph Text, Multiple Choices, Checkboxes, Select from List, Ratio, Grid, Date and Time.

Kind of question

The text is really convenient because you can use it for users to enter information such as email addresses, phone numbers, etc. and then actually validate the data to ensure it is compliant.

reply text

Once you've created it yourself, go ahead and click the View live form button to see its interface. Here is my fake holiday survey:

test sample

Go ahead and close that tab and then click Send samples and send it to your Google Circles or enter email addresses for the people you want to include in the survey. That is the saying about it! It is very simple for you to create a form and submit it in less than half an hour. Enjoy!
