[cPanel] - Actions used in File Manager

Access File Manager on cPanel.



Log in to the File Manager section and the following is a list of operations divided by frames




Create a new file or folder


To create a new file or folder, do the following:




  1. Click + File or + Folder in the toolbar File Manager . A new window will appear.

  2. Enter the name of the new item in the box New File Name: or New Folder Name: text box.

  3. Enter the location where the system will store the item in New file will be created in: or New Folder will be created in: text box.

  4. Click on it Create New File or Create New Folder new.


Rename a file or folder


To rename the folder or file, click on the item's name and enter the new name in the text box. Press Return to save changes.




Move a file into a folder


To move files into folders, follow these steps:




  1. Click on it Move in the toolbar at the top of the interface. The New File window window will appear.

  2. Type the file path for which you want to move the file in the box Enter the file path that you want to move this file to: text box.

  3. Click on it Move File (s) to move files.

Copy a file


To copy a file, do the following:



  1. Select the file you want to copy

  2. Click on it Copy from the toolbar at the top of the interface. The Copy window will appear.

  3. In the window Copy , enter the file path where you want to save the item.

  4. Click on it Copy file (s) to copy the file.



Copy multiple files


To copy multiple files, follow these steps:



  1. To copy some items, hold down Shift key while you select the items.

  2. Choose Copy from the toolbar. The Copy The window will appear.

  3. Enter the file path to copy the files in the box text box.

  4. Click on it Copy File (s) to copy the files.


Modify access to a file or directory


To modify file or directory permissions, follow these steps:



  1. Select the file or folder to change permissions.

  2. From the toolbar, press Permissions. The Change Permissions window will appear.

  3. Use check boxes or text boxes to change item permissions. The permission of this setting is by default 0644.

  4. Click on it Change Permissions to save your changes.


Delete and restore files and folders


To delete a file or folder, do the following:



  1. Select the file or folder you want to delete.

  2. From the toolbar, click Delete. The Trash window will appear.

  3. Click on it Trash File (s) to confirm that you want to delete a file or folder.


To restore a file or folder, do the following:



  1. Click on it View Trash from the toolbar.

  2. Select the file or folder you want to restore.

  3. Click on it Restore on the toolbar.

  4. Confirm that you want to restore the item.


Other item actions


Right-click the file or folder to select it from the action menu that the system customizes based on the file type.

Search for an item


Tools Search tool in the upper right corner of the interface allows users to search for a specific file. By default, Search The tool searches all files in home folder. You can limit your search to within the document root in /home/user/public_html, place userRepresents your cPanel username. You can also limit your search to the directory displayed in the file window.


To search for a file, do the following:



  1. Use Search menu to select the folder to search for the following options:

    • All Your Files

    • only public_html

    • Current Directory



  2. Enter the desired file name in the text box.

  3. Click GO .


A new window displays the filename that matches your search. To go to a folder or go to the folder containing the file, double-click the desired item in the list. If no files including your search terms exist, notify No records found appears.


Character encoding verification dialog


When you edit files using features Edit, Code Editor, or HTML Editor A window will appear to confirm the file's character encoding. Use the menu to choose the correct character encoding for the file. Then, click Edit to continue.

  • Click on it Disable Encoding Check to turn off encryption verification in the future.


To turn on or off Character Encoding Verification Dialogs feature, do the following steps:



  1. Click on it Setting in the upper right corner of the interface. A new window will appear.

  2. Turn on or off feature Character Encoding Verification Dialogs

    • To turn on encryption verification, deselect Disable Character Encoding Verification Dialogs check box.

    • To disable encryption, select Disable Character Encoding Verification Dialogs check box.



  3. Click on it Save.


 



Change settings


To change the directory in it File Manager Open, do the following:



  1. Click on it Setting to open the window Option .

  2. Choose Web Root ( public_html or www) for the most direct route to your file or choose another option to open the interface File Manager in that directory.

  3. Click on it Save.
