AltDaemon - utility that allows application signing on iPhone

Anyone using a jailbreak like Odyssey or unc0ver is very familiar with AltStore, as it has quickly surpassed Cydia Impactor to become the most popular way of installing jailbreak apps or IPA files on compatible devices after. Cydia Impactor is no longer active. However, like Cydia Impactor, AltStore has one big drawback: it requires a Mac or Windows.

AltStore's developer, Riley Testut, sought to change this about the platform's user experience, and recently, a beta package for jailbroken devices called AltDaemon was formed in June. AltDaemon's purpose is to make AltStore a computer-independent experience, allowing users to install, refresh and update side-loading applications without needing a computer. On October 6, 2020, the AltDaemon version was officially released.

AltDaemon allows AltStore to install, refresh and update apps completely on iPhone without requiring a Mac or PC running AltServer on the same Wi-Fi network. You don't need to be at home to download apps; With AltDaemon you can finally download applications from anywhere.

Like all daemons, AltDaemon runs in the background, but Testut says it will have little impact on system resources, as it doesn't actually do anything unless requested by the AltStore application.

The main benefit of AltDaemon is that you don't need a Mac or Windows PC to maintain apps, whether it's a jailbreak app, an emulator, ... You don't even need to worry about Wi-Fi networks. you are connected, nor do you need to be at home to upload the IPA file to your iPhone.

The bottom line here is that AltStore is the main platform used today to install jailbreak apps. You will need a computer the first time you install your side load application, but AltDaemon will take care of the rest. from that. It is worth noting that AltDaemon requires AltStore version 1.4, which is newly released.

Earlier in June, AltDaemon was released as a lifesaver for the jailbreak community alongside AltStore. AltStore's drawback is that you have to use it on your computer. When the 7 days have expired, you will need to do this again.

At that time, AltStore's official Twitter account announced that AltStore was working on a new version called AltDaemon that allowed AltStore users to install and sign the application without a computer.

If you have ever used the ReProvision utility, you will find this concept very familiar. However, now ReProvision is no longer under development and AltDaemon appears.

AltDaemon will install an app on your iPhone or iPad and run in the background, allowing AltStore to keep the sandbox jailbreak up and running even on non-jailbroken devices (this is essential to be able to jailbreak the first time. ). AltDaemon is available for download from Cydia or from a package manager.

In terms of requirements, initially you will still need a computer to install AltStore on your iPhone or iPad, but then you can rely on AltDaemon to sign apps on the device without having to use a computer afterwards. .
